Patrick and Erik had already shared twenty glorious years as a commited and loving couple before deciding that it was high time they consolidated their commitment with a civil partnership in the Netherlands, before celebrating the romantic aspect of their marriage with guests in the heart of Tuscany.
The award winning Villa Dievole, a glorious Senese Wine Resort and Hotel is a wonderful venue for weddings and a great base to explore the province of Siena. We have been performing ceremonies here for years and never tire of returning, enjoying the visual variance of its expansive vineyards throughout the year.
This ceremony was conducted in early spring, when the precious tender vines sprouted the first signs of life after a winter of slumber. We were so incredibly fortunate with the weather, which had been characterised by characteristic April showers a couple of days before. This meant however that the countryside was gratefully replenished to become an inviting lustrous shade of deep green.
Two wonderful men were thrilled to finally call one another ‘husband’ and to have celebrated their good fortunate in such a deliciously idyllic setting. Their union is not only a seal upon 20 wonderful years together but also a public declaration of their commitment.
It was clear that although they are two souls they are but one thought. They have supported one another through difficult moments and devoted their lives to ensuring that their relationship continues to be a source of inspiration for all who know them.
Mutual trust and respect is the success of their long partnership. Erik told us that he could not imagine a more spontaneous and heartfelt way to declare his undying love, than to marry his closest friend in the heart of the most romantic country in the world…
There were many tears during the ceremony, particularly during speeches delivered by guests in Dutch and it was impossible to remain unmoved by the evidence of such strong emotion, in spite of the language barrier!
There were moments of real humour though too, especially during the hand tying ceremony. The zealous guests did such a great job that it became necessary to cut the couple free before exchanging rings!
To reflect their feelings they lovingly offered one another rings, bearing the inscription ‘Friends Forever’. Two simple words placed close together, powerfully immortalizes the fundamental sentiment that characterizes their relationship.
We are pleased and honoured to have shared this unique event and wish these ‘Forever Friends’ all the happiness in the world, as they look forward to the rest of their lives as a married couple
